When are the major airlines going to give it up? This back to back ticketing that passenger’s use is a real sticking point with me. What is a back-to-back ticket? Simply it is when a consumer buys a round trip supersaver ticket to let’s say Chicago to New York and then buys another supersaver ticket round trip from New York to Chicago. They then intertwine the dates so the passenger will fly out on ticket one to NYC and Return to Chicago on leg one of ticket two. Then fly back to NYC on leg two of ticket two and return to Chicago on leg two of ticket one.
Now you may say, why would anyone do that? Well it’s simple. The major airlines fare structure is so out of whack that it is cheaper to buy two round trip supersaver tickets than to buy one regular round trip ticket.
The majors have threatened their customers with all kinds of fines and penalties for buying back-to-back tickets. I think it is time for them to stop this nonsense and get real. The discount airlines don’t have this problem because their fare structure is sane and it is not cheaper to buy two round trip tickets to your destination.
It is time for the general flying public to tell the major airlines to “Give it UP!”
